There are a lot of typical places to visit, when you’re in Austria, as every of the 9 federal states have their own landmarks and special things.
For example tourists who are interested in sports can visit the Vienna City Marathon, a big annual road running event in the capital of Austria. People, who like relaxing and enjoying the holidays better, can have a tea- or coffee-break in a cafe and enjoy the beautiful ambiance.
Although, most of the mountains there are used for skiing, Austria is also a great place for mountain climbers. 65% of its territory belong to the Alps.

 1. Schonbrunn Palace

Schonbrunn is one of the best place to visit in Austria. It was actually built as imperial residence for empress Elonora Gonzaga (1598-1655). During the second Turkish siege of Vienna, the palace was badly damaged. As recently as 1743 under empress Maria Theresia the palace was redecorated and enlarged to its recent status. The Schönbrunn Palace has a beautiful park and near the palace, there's a big zoo. So the Schönbrunn Palace is also a great place to visit with your family. The "Tiergarten Schönbrunn" (also: Vienna Zoo, Schönbrunn Zoo) has existed since 1752 and houses 480 different animal species and all in all about 4,600 animals. It is world wide one of the most modern and famous zoos. In General, the Schönbrunn palace is known as the most popular sightseeing in Vienna.





2. Hallstatt

 
Hallstatt is a parish of about 794 people in Upper Austria and it also know considered as best place to visit in Austria. It is situated right next to the Hallstatt lake. Next to a beautiful countryside, Hallstatt also offers cave tours in the Eisriesenwelt caves and the mammoth cave. The Dachstein (2995 metres high), Hallstatt and the Inner Salzkammergut belong together to the UNESCO - World Heritage. In Hallstatt you can visit the Catholic Parish Church of Assumption, the Karner with ossuary, which is unique in the world as in it there are bones from whole generations, and for example the Hallstatt museum.




3. Schonbrunn Palace Eisriesenwelt Caves in Hallstadt

The Dachstein - Rieseneishöhle has about 5,000 m2 surface area, but it contains about 13,000 m3 ice, which has probably been in the cave for 500 years. In summer you can take a tour through the cave. The impressing light effects and the giant iceicles are worth a look. To do the Eisriesenwelt cave tour you need warm clothes, as it is cold in the cave and brogues with antislip-shoe base. The Dachstein Rieseneishöhle is 2,000 metres long, the tour goes through only 700 metres of the cave. Its my best place i Often go there.






4. Palace Viennese Prater




When people talk about Prater, most of them are talking about the Wurstelprater, a theme park in the northwest of the actual Prater, a 6 km2 big area in Vienna. The Wurstelprater offers bumper cars, carousels, roller coasters, ghost trains, a wax cabinet and many more. The most famous attraction in this amusement park is probably the Ferris Wheel, a big wheel which gives you a wonderful view of the whole Wurstelprater. I love this Place.





5. Grossglockner High Alpine Road



The 48 kilometre long high alpine road, a wonderful road to drive. It has 36 bends and gives a grest view of Austrias typical mountain landscape. The road leads into the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, to the Großglockner, which is the highest mountain in Austria. The landscape is very versatile, you pass cliffs, blossoming alpine meadows and eternal ice. And then you reach the foot of Großglockner, the Franz-Josefs-Höhe.

6. The Schlossberg in Graz





The Schlossberg (= castle mountain) is situated in Graz, one of the federal states of Austria. The clock tower on the Schlossberg is also the landmark of Graz. As soon as you climbed over 260 stairs (or you use the Schlossberg lift) you can enjoy a wonderful view of Graz.

The Woerthersee is the biggest lake of Kärnten and probably one of the most famous lakes in whole Austria. You can take cruises on the lake. In the central part of the lake between Maria Wörth and Pörtschach there were originally three islands, of which Maria Loretto in the East Bay was by lowering water level in 1770 to the peninsula to the center of Maria Wörth. The other two are the Kapuzinerinsel at Unterdellach and the Blumeninsel.

Six Austrian marathon records were set throughout history at this event - three of Gerhard Hartmann (1984, 1985 and 1986) and one each by Dagmar Rabenstein (2:35:42, 2002), Susanne Pumper (2:32:21 , 2006) and Andrea Mayr (2:30:43, 2009).

10. The Basilica Mariazell

The Roman Catholic Basilica of Mariazell is the most important pilgrimage site in Austria and considered as best place to visit in Austria and one of the most important in Europe. According to legend, the founding of the pilgrimage goes back to the 21st December 1157. Mariazell was first mentioned in the year 1243. An altar was consecrated in 1266.
